James Andrews (as a child I knew him as Jim) retired to Alderney in the Channel Islands in the late 1970s, and for a few years owned a fishmongers/tea shop. He later owned the Devereux House Hotel on the island.

Date of the photograph would likely be summer 1919 as this vehicle was converted to a double-deck bus in late 1919.

Newport Street Bus Station opened in July 1946 and closed in September 1992. Site was cleared for use as a car park by mid 1993, and the Apartments were built in 2007.

Location Angel Place. The bus nearest the camera is reg number OK1239 working Service 25 from Worcester to Birmingham (full route was Malvern Wells to Birmingham). The final destination was shown on the front of the vehicle with the intermediate calling points shown on the sides, as seen. The route number was changed to 125 in c.May 1925, then to 144 in c.Feb 1928. The next bus is OA4574 working Service 35 to Pershore, then OA4555 on unidentified route, but probably Kidderminster. The date of the photograph is during or after 1923 as OA4555 was converted from single to double deck in that year. Although this vehicle dates from the early 1930s, fleet numbers (1061 in this case) were not shown on Midland Red buses until c.March 1944. HA5046 was still in service with Midland Red in early 1950, so this photograph is likely from the late 1940s.

Cars parked are, from the left, Hillman Huskey (1955), Austin A40 (1966), Ford? Panel van, Ford 100E Van, Jaguar saloon. The Horn and Trumpet pub used to have a dubious reputation. I think it was in the 1980s that the pub featured in the News of the World sunday paper
